梵字を書くときは、まず朴筆を左上から右下に向かって、紙面に45度の角度で点を打ちます。この点を、 ア 命点、略してア点、または命点、あるいは発心点といいます。すべての悉曇文字は、ア宇とその点画が基本となり、そこから変化したものですから、点がなければ悉曇文字ではないということがいえます。ア点は、すべての梵字の起筆点なのです。ア点の打ち方は、字形によって異なります。
